Pack your warmest clothes! You’ll need a beanie or headband to keep your noggin warm (especially your ears), goggles or sunglasses, and warm socks and gloves. It’s also a good idea to pack some thermal underclothes - that you won’t mind others seeing if you zip down your jacket once inside heated areas.

Even though sunshine might not be the first thing you think of when you picture the slopes, sunscreen is a must! Not only might you have the sun beating down from above, but the reflection off the snow can be just as damaging to your skin.

Waterproof pants, jackets and boots, as well as skis, snowboards, and toboggans can all be hired if you don’t want to fork out the cash for your first snow trip. If you already own the full kit and caboodle, you can bring your skis or snowboard to the snow for free with Greyhound!

Ski and snowboard equipment, toboggans and waterproof boots, jackets and pants can be hired or purchased at all ski resorts. The friendly and helpful staff will be able to size you up and recommend the best gear for your budget!

Snowboarding might be trickier to learn at the start, but easier to advance.

Have you tried either before? Stick with what you know, or try something new!

And don’t worry if you make the wrong decision - most hire places will let you swap your gear if you’re not feeling it.

There’s plenty to do outside if you don’t want to hit the slopes - go tobogganing, snow-shoeing, build a snowman, have a snowball fight, or make snow angels.

If you’d prefer to stay warm inside, why not simply curl up in front of the fire with a good book and hot chocolate? There’s nothing quite like snuggling up and watching the snow fall outside through the window.

Yes, if you want to go up to the slopes, you’ll need tickets or a pass for the chairlifts. These can be attached to your jacket for easy access and visibility (and so you don’t lose them!).

Just like our travel passes, snow season passes are often the most cost-effective way to enjoy the snow, especially if you’re going to be there for a while or want to make multiple trips throughout the season.

You have a couple of options when it comes to deciding your snow trip accommodation. Stay at Jindabyne and get the Greyhound to the slopes each day, or stay on the snow!

Your Greyhound to Thredbo will drop you directly at the Thredbo Alpine Apartments. There are many other places to stay at Thredbo, and you can check out the full range of Snowy Mountains accommodation here.

Thredbo has a free shuttle bus service that operates throughout winter to make getting around simple and straightforward. The bus service starts at 7:30 am and runs until 9 pm. During July and August, a late night service runs until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. The shuttle bus routes can be viewed online.

Perisher is accessible via Perisher’s Skitube, one of the stops on the Greyhound snow service. This Swiss-designed rack-rail train takes passengers from Bullocks Flat through the Ramshead Range, into Kosciuszko National Park and onto Perisher Valley and Blue Cow Mountain. Areas of the Perisher resort that can’t be accessed by the Skitube are connected by ski trails and chairlifts.
