WHAT TO DO & SEE IN WINTON
AGE OF DINOSAURS MUSEUM
Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils, including some of our countries most famous finds. You'll meet 'Australovenator', a 2-legged meat eating Raptor nicknamed 'Banjo' - and many of their pre-historic pals!
OPAL FOSSICKING
Opals were first discovered in Opalton in 1888 and the first mine was worked in 1894. By the end of the 19th century, Opalton was a bustling township. Try your luck fossicking for your own opals. Who knows, you could dig up a big one! But first, you’ll need to have your own basic equipment, a permit, a map and a sense of adventure.
MUSICAL FENCE
Winton is home to world's first permanent musical fence installation in the world. Accompanied by a junkyard band, the Musical Fence is free and available for everyone to use. Designed by percussionist and composer Graeme Leak, the Musical Fence is a wire fence that can be played as a musical instrument.
ARNO'S WALL
Arno's Wall is constructed from concrete and rock brought in from Arno’s opal mine at Opalton and is studded with old lawnmower parts, boat propellers, old machinery, vintage typewriters and even a couple of complete motorbikes! Arno’s Wall is two metres high and runs for more than 70 metres, so it takes a while to walk around it.
